In 'Wonka's Golden Ticket,' AI Gene Wilder Isn't Just Creepy — It's Also Poorly Done
What could've been a(n ethically iffy) "tribute" to Wilder's Wonka ultimately is just lazy mimicry.
Oh how I loved Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory as a kid.
The 1971 adaptation of Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was not just a visual delight and not-so-stealth cautionary tale against bratty behavior, it also set me on a path to being a Gene Wilder superfan.
In the years that followed, Wee Matt would race to the moviehouse to see Young Frankenstein (and listen to on a loop the soundtrack, which back in the day also included dialogue), Blazing Saddles, Silver Streak and Stir Crazy... and even suffer through that weird film adaptation of The Little Prince.
